Warren Buffett's Love for Coca-Cola

Apart from the previously mentioned Washington Post and GEICO insurance company, Warren Buffett had another favorite, which is well-known to everyone - Coca-Cola.

On October 19, 1987, a significant global stock market crash occurred, commonly known as "Black Monday." While this crash was a one-day event with a sharp decline in stock prices, it did have lasting effects on market sentiment. The Chairman/CEO of the world's largest beverage supplier, Coca-Cola, Roberto Goizueta, and General Manager Donachio closely monitored the stock market during this period. They observed that, in the aftermath of the crash, Coca-Cola's stock price had declined by a significant 25% compared to its previous high.

Warren Buffett's Acquisition

Roberto and Donachio discovered that a large-scale acquisition of Coca-Cola shares was happening, and they suspected Warren Buffett's involvement. Donachio decided to confirm with Warren Buffett.

Warren Buffett confirmed his involvement and explained his enthusiasm for Coca-Cola. He had switched to Coca-Cola from Pepsi, thanks to the introduction of "Cherry Coke" in 1985.

He requested that his stock purchase not be revealed to the public until necessary. Donachio agreed, understanding the implications of public disclosure.

During that year's Christmas period, rumors circulated in the market about Warren Buffett's acquisition of Coca-Cola stocks.

When Roberto and Donachio found out who was acquiring the stocks, they were relieved because Warren Buffett was already considered the "wisest investor" by investors throughout the United States.
